We continue to explore the challenges associated with evaluating the economics of disease elimination and eradication efforts, and our work provided a foundation for the development of the concept of an eradication investment case at an international forum (proceedings published by MIT Press). We emphasize that global coordination represents a requirement for successful management of infectious disease risks, in large part because the infectious agents do not respect national borders.
